  1. Pedigree Charts – In this chart, a user can display bloodline ancestors. It has graphical information. A user can print it on paper or make a poster.
  2. Descendant Chart – as the name suggests, a user can create a chart of a person’s descendent using the descendent chart.
  3. Relationship chart—You can create a relationship chart between two people. If someone is in between, those people will also be included in the chart.
  4. Hourglass Chart – This chart will display the selected person’s ancestors on top and the descendants below.
  5. Vertical Pedigree Chart – This will display a family tree chart vertically and only direct-line ancestors.
  6. Horizontal Hourglass Chart – This chart will display a person’s ancestors, descendants, and siblings. Users will see the descendent left and ancestors’ right side of the screen.
  7. Bow Tie chart—The bow tie chart displays an individual’s direct line. Here, you will see the paternal left and maternal right.
  8. Family Tree Chart – The user can display an individual’s ancestors; only the bloodline will show here.
  9. Extended Family Chart—Here, a user can display the entire tree or choose what they want to display in the report.
  10. Fan Chart – It will display the ancestors who are in direct bloodline in the form of a Fan (arch)

  1. Ahnentafel Report – If you are creating this report and have selected person A, you will get a report of all ancestors of person A.
  2. Descendant report – This report will create a report on the selected person’s descendants.

  1. Individual report – when you create this report, it will display the selected person’s detailed information, including pictures and personal notes.
  2. Custom Reports – Custom Reports allows you to customize a person’s report.
  3. Data Error Report—If there is an error in individual information, the family tree maker shows you the error, and you can fix it.
  4. Timeline report – This report shows a person’s event.
  5. Surname report – we can create a surname report. This will display several surnames, including several males and females with that surname.
  6. Notes Reports – You can see notes about someone you created the report for.
  7. Task list – This can list the tasks in your tree.
  8. List of individual reports—This report has five different reports in it: an index of individuals, an Index of individuals with ID, an Anniversary list, a Birthday List, and a contact list.

  4. Parentage report—If you create this report, you will see if the parent was natural, the child was adopted, or the child was a foster child.
  5. Outline Descendant Report – it shows all the descendants from generation to generation, including children, grandchildren, or great-grandchildren, and it goes on from generation to generation.
  6. Outline Ancestors Report—This report is similar to Outline Descendants but shows an individual’s ancestors.
  7. Family View Report—This report shows three generations, the selected person, and their children.

Step1 – Set up FTM to go online

Now if your Family Tree Maker is not set to go online then you will not be able to use any of the web-base features.

First of all, with your FTM open, you would need to do the following;

  1. Go to click on the ‘File’ menu.

  • The ‘Go online’ option means that you are not currently set to access the Internet through Family Tree Maker. Therefore, you would need to select the option to allow FTM to connect to the web first.
  • However, if ‘Go Offline’ is display, then this means that your FTM is already set to go online.

Step2 – Checking the date, time and time zone for your PC

In case the date, time and time zone are not set up correctly on your PC, then FTM will face some authenticating issues with the servers.

So you would need first to adjust the date and time preferences;

  1. You will need to click on the time that is listed in the top right corner of your current screen and then select the ‘Date and Time Preferences’ option.

  • Well, the easiest way to get this done is to check the box that is right next to ‘Set date and time automatically’.

  1. You can now close the ‘Date & Time Preferences’ by giving a click on the ‘Red Circle’ icon in the top left and then reopening FTM.

3. After that, in the ‘Network’ window, you have to select ‘Ethernet’ (or Airport only if you connect to the internet wirelessly) from the left side and then click on the ‘Advanced’ option in the bottom right of the page.

4. You now need to click on the ‘Proxies’ tab. You should see it in the window that opens.

5. You must remove any checks that are next to ‘Web Proxy (HTTP), Secure Web Proxy (HTTPS), and SOCKS Proxy, and then you just need to click on OK.

NOTE: You can be at ease as other proxy settings should not affect FTM; however, it wouldn’t do any harm to uncheck any other protocols listed.

  1. You now need to click on the ‘Apply’ button that is in the bottom right of the ‘Network’ settings window.

7. When you are done, you just need to click the ‘Network’ window by clicking on the ‘Red Circle’ that is in the upper left of the screen, after which you will need to re-open FTM.

Well, generally, the ‘Web accelerator’ software is use by those who have a dial-up connection, and it works similarly to the way a proxy server does. The software catches the items and pages that are frequently used; it also compresses information and optimizes codes coming from web pages as well.
